Lisa Guernsey is Director of New America’s Early Education Initiative and Learning Technologies Project. A journalist by training, Ms. Guernsey has been a technology and education writer at The New York Times and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Laura Bornfreund is Deputy Director of New America’s Early Education Initiative. Her commentary has appeared in publications like The Atlantic, The Huffington Post, and The Orlando Sentinel.
Conor Williams is a Senior Researcher on the New America Early Education Initiative. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, Commonweal, Dissent, and elsewhere. Dr. Williams holds a PhD in government from Georgetown University.
Clare McCann is a policy analyst on New America’s Education Policy Program. She works on a range of issues, from early education through to K-12 and federal and state budgeting issues. Her writing has appeared in publications like Roll Call and StateImpact, and she is regularly quote in education stories by media outlets like Education Week and Politico.
Lindsey Tepe is a program associate on the New America’s Early Education Initiative and Learning Technologies Project. She is a former fourth and fifth grade teacher in Chicago Public Schools.
Anne Hyslop is a policy analyst on the New America Education Policy Program, where she specializes in K-12 research. Her analysis and commentary is frequently quoted in publications like Politico, the Washington Post, and Education Week.
Melissa Tooley is a K-12 policy analyst on the New America Education Policy Program. She was previously a policy analyst at The Education Trust, and prior to that worked at The Institute for College Access & Success.
Kevin Carey is Director of the Education Policy Program at New America, where specializes in higher education issues. He has published articles on education and other topics in The New York Times, Slate, The New Republic, Washington Monthly, The American Prospect, and Democracy, among others. He writes a monthly column for The Chronicle of Higher Education and edits the annual Washington Monthly College Guide.
Amy Laitinen is deputy director for Higher Education on the New America Education Policy Program. Laitinen previously served as a policy advisor to the undersecretary and assistant secretary for vocational and adult education at the U.S. Department of Education She also served as a policy advisor at the White House. The Chronicle of Higher Education named Laitinen as one top ten innovators of 2013 for her work on competency-based education.
Jason Delisle is director of New America’s Federal Education Budget Project. Stephen Burd is a senior policy analyst with New America’s Education Policy Program. He has also published articles and op-eds in The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Los Angeles Times, and Washington Monthly, and provided expert commentary for media outlets including America Public Media’s Marketplace, the CBS Evening News, CNN, C-SPAN, and National Public Radio.
Mary Alice McCarthy
Mary Alice McCarthy is a Senior Policy Analyst in the Education Policy Program at New America where she examines the relationship between higher education policy, workforce development policy, and efforts to improve career and educational outcomes for low-income and non-traditional students. She writes on a variety of topics including career pathways, career technical and adult education, credentials, and the relationship between employers and higher education.
Ben Miller is a senior policy analyst in the Education Policy Program. He was previously a senior policy advisor in the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Policy Development in the U.S. Department of Education. Miller’s work has appeared in or been cited by the Washington Monthly, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Washington Post, Congressional Quarterly, and Houston Chronicle, among other outlets.
Rachel Fishman is a policy analyst for the Education Policy Program at the New America. Before joining New America, she worked as a policy analyst at Education Sector. Her analysis and commentary has appeared in publications such as US News and World Report, the Washington Post, and USA Today.
