Advanced Certification/Advanced Credentialing is a competitive grant program that provides grants to develop and implement activities that encourage and support teachers seeking additional training through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, the National Council on Teacher Quality, and other authorized nonprofits.

Grants are available to state educational agencies (SEAs), LEAs, or nationally recognized certification and credentialing organizations in partnership with LEAs or SEAs. In 2010, no new awards were made under this program, but the U.S. Department of Education made one continuing award of $11 million to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. No funding was provided in fiscal year 2014. The 2015 President’s Budget Request does not include funding for Advanced Certification or Advanced Credentialing and would fold it in with other teacher effectiveness programs under proposed program consolidations.
